Update from Rio Maior...

Just to confirm I made it through the remainder of my flight back to the UK without doing any serious damage to the woman behind me. Probably for the best really...

The trip however did do a lot of damage to me, particularly my body clock. After 4 flights in less than 24hrs and only 5hrs sleep in the 48hrs following the race I was a jibberish wreck. I became nocturnal, sleeping for up to 15hrs straight at a time, lost my appetite, lost my ability to function in any social situation and to be honest didn't have the foggiest where I was or what day it was. Typical Sunday morning hangover then...

After eventually managing to stay awake for a whole day I finally jolted my body clock back into some normality and just in time too. I am now on a 10 day training camp in Rio Maior, Portugal with the BTF's podium level squad. God knows why I'm here then....The main goal of the camp is to prepare the Senior Euro's Team for the European Champs coming up in Athlone. I am not part of that team however but think I have sussed out my purpose: To make the other athletes feel good. Not having a good run session?? Don't worry it can't be going as bad as Kirsty's. Look into the horizon and you might just see a white glow (ie. me)  struggling on in the distance. Instantly you'll feel a warm sense of satisfaction that, in fact, it's not going so horrifically as you thought and et voila my job is complete.

Bit harsh on myself maybe??

Well sadly for me that is how I feel about my running at the moment. It is the painful truth that since breaking my big toe my running has taken a horrific amount of steps backwards. However the real aim of this camp for me (well so they tell me) is to get my running back where it used to be and running with the girls here is certainly going to help I hope. A strong interval session today hopefully signalled my body being a little more willing to cooperate on the road back to quick running. Baby steps Kirsty, baby steps. I just referred to myself in third person didn't I? Dear God.

Without wanting to talk too much about form and triathlon (regular readers may have sussed that's not really my thing) my swimming and cycling are feeling strong and unlike during our winter BTF camps I am holding onto the girls and enjoying working well with them. It is a heck of a lot more enjoyable not being spat out the back of every session!

So....Portugal. It's hot. And that's all I really have to say about it so far because I have either been sleeping or training. End of paragraph...If you would like more information on the local culture/environment tough.

Short blog this week but enough nonsense to keep you going for a while hopefully. Unfortunately I have quite a bit of cramming to do for an exam next week so I doubt if I'll be able to post again for a while. I am becoming quite the geek when it comes to blogging these days aren't I? I think it might be getting out of hand....Love it.

Haa I just googled "how to say goodbye in Portugese" and the first result it showed me was how to say "goodbye life". Cheery lot here then.....

xXx
