The 'gammy hammy' lives another day...
The ‘gammy hammy’ has healed! Finally my tear has repaired itself and I’ve been given the all clear to begin where I left off……carefully! A secondary tear ain’t that high up on my wish list right now to be honest! Whilst looking back with my coach though, this injury could (if you look really really hard) have been a good thing. Without it we might not have identified some serious issues going on. We might not have put me on such an intense core and rehab programme (10 hours a week people!). We might have put me on a start line I simply was not ready to toe. So really tearing my hamstring was a good thing. Nope I don’t see it either! The ridiculous core and rehab programme, despite being mind numbingly boring, has worked wonders though and I’m defo reaping the benefits of that right now. I was slowly being converted into someone who is all pro physio exercises but after a few power cleans last week I’m in love with lifting all over again! Oh I should really thank my physios Maggie and Rachel who, despite putting me through an unbearable amount of pain and stuck more acupuncture needles in me than an addict does in their lifetime, have got me up and running again. Much appreciated :D
So getting away from triathlon for a bit, Uni has restarted…I actually can’t believe its been a year since I was dumped in the halls with a few suitcases, a lasagne (brilliant ice breaker that…”lasagne anyone?”) and a terrified expression on my face. As much as I love living away form home now, that day was traumatising. Been back for a couple of says and loving catching up with everyone and….well that’s about it really. Had my intro lecture for bio today and OMG. Here’s a little snippet of an essay I will have the pleasure of writing: ‘The use of evolutionary theory to explain human behaviour (often called "evolutionary psychology", "sociobiology", or "behavioural psychology") remains very controversial. Using specific examples of evolutionary studies of human behaviour from the primary scientific literature, illustrate what you think are the strengths and weaknesses of evolutionary psychology as a science in comparison with other approaches to understanding human behaviour.’ Clueless doesn’t even come close!
Got a few good things coming up soon to distract me from that though…Michael MacIntyre gig soon and I’m counting down the days until yet another Snow Patrol gig in November :D I’m just a teeny bit in love with their new song ‘Just say Yes’ Check it out…you won’t regret. Also coming up will be round 2 of mine and my sisters challenge series. Challenge 1 was eating almost a kg of watermelon each. It made sense at the time…If you’re a friend on facebook the rather tragic video of me struggling is up there. For those of you who aren’t- that’s a classic piece of videography you’re missing out on! Anyways, challenge 2 is to eat a whole red chilli, seeds and all. Clearly we haven’t thought this through much and I have still to research whether there is a possibility either of us could die. Moving on….challenge 3 has also been set for next summer and it is zorbing! I’m excited already…..maybe not for the chilli though.
xXx Oh and a massive massive well done to all the medallists last week at the World Champs :D
